Pune DJ music ban demand: Residents rally against loud music, Bapat stays away

Over 300 Pune residents gathered for a protest on Sunday, demanding a ban on DJ music at religious events. The march began at Bangandharva Chowk and concluded at the Pune Municipal Corporation headquarters. Vidyanand Bapat, who originally proposed the issue during a Ganesh festival preparation meeting, did not attend this particular protest.

He declined to provide a reason for his absence. AAP leader Mukund Kirdat joined the rally and emphasized that the demand for DJ music ban was not limited to Hindu festivals, but also included other religious celebrations. Kirdat stressed the harmful effects of DJ music on children, the elderly, and those with health issues. NCP(SP) leader Sunil Mane, who also took part in the protest, noted that there was consensus among educated Pune residents that DJ music has no place in any religious festivities.

This included members of Muslim and Christian communities who actively participated in the protest. Activist Vishwambhar Choudhari claimed that several BJP leaders support the DJ music ban, but party president Dheeraj Ghate is resistant to the idea. Mane called on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to demonstrate courage and take action against DJ music, similar to the ban implemented in Nagpur, where the city is located.
