Panvel Civic Body Intensifies Dengue Prevention Drive, Conducts Surveys To Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Sites

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has ramped up efforts to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya across its region. Regular surveys are being conducted to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites. The Medical and Health Department is inspecting homes and societies to detect and remove potential breeding grounds.

PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale has called on residents to cooperate with survey teams. During the monsoon season, water accumulation in and around homes significantly increases the risk of mosquito breeding and the spread of vector-borne diseases. Residents are urged to ensure water does not stagnate in water tanks, containers, flower pots, discarded tires, coconut shells, and other receptacles. Water storage containers must be kept covered, and surrounding areas should remain clean.

Surveillance teams are conducting door-to-door inspections in housing societies, residential complexes, construction sites, and individual homes. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Gosavi has appealed for residents to prevent water accumulation on their premises and cooperate with civic employees during inspections. Symptoms of dengue, malaria, or chikungunya such as fever, body ache, headache, and weakness should prompt residents to seek medical attention instead of self-medicating. The municipal health department will provide blood tests and further treatment as needed.

The PMC emphasizes that active participation from citizens is crucial in preventing mosquito-borne diseases. Residents are advised to maintain cleanliness around their homes, prevent water stagnation, and cooperate with the civic body's surveillance and preventive measures.
