Omani executed in Eastern Province for drug smuggling

Saudi authorities executed an Omani national convicted of smuggling hashish into the Kingdom's Eastern Province, the Interior Ministry declared. Samir Khamis Barik, the offender, was sentenced to death after being found guilty by a court of drug smuggling. The Ministry of Interior reported that security forces had apprehended Barik, who was subsequently referred to a competent court.

The court's verdict was affirmed by higher authorities, and a royal order was issued to enforce the death penalty in compliance with Islamic law. The execution took place on Sunday, 24 Rabi Al-Awwal 1448 AH, equivalent to September 6, 2026, in the Eastern Province. The Interior Ministry emphasized the Saudi government's dedication to safeguarding society from drug-related threats and imposing stringent penalties on traffickers and dealers.

The ministry cautioned that anyone engaging in such illicit activities would face severe legal repercussions.
