Ogun Gov’t: Why We Won’t Reintroduce Monthly Sanitation Exercise

The Ogun State Government has firmly decided not to reinstate the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise. Instead, they plan to bolster waste management operations by providing additional equipment and vehicles. Governor Dapo Abiodun, speaking during the commissioning of waste management equipment, highlighted the state's shift towards daily and efficient waste collection and disposal.

He emphasized that the state has moved beyond the monthly sanitation exercise era, as residents have already adopted daily environmental sanitation practices. The governor explained that reintroducing the monthly exercise would disrupt economic and social activities for extended periods. Instead, the government will invest in more compactors and other waste management equipment to enhance Ogun Waste Management Authority's (OGWAMA) capabilities and improve service delivery.

Abiodun praised the cooperation of residents, community groups, commercial outlet owners, and industrialists in maintaining a clean environment. He assured them that his administration will continue to support OGWAMA, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), and other relevant agencies to deliver efficient services. Governor Abiodun also praised Special Adviser and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Hon.

Farouk Adeniyi Akintunde, for his significant achievements during his first six months in office, despite limited resources. He expressed confidence in Akintunde's ability to elevate OGWAMA's performance with better equipment. The administration remains committed to a sustainable waste management system, prioritizing regular collection and proper disposal over the outdated monthly sanitation model.
