Noah Fifita throws for 2 TDs, Arizona opens season with 35-7 blowout of Northern Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Quarterback Noah Fifita delivered a stellar performance, throwing for 262 yards and two touchdowns while Kedrick Reescano added two more scores as Arizona University kicked off their season with a commanding 35-7 victory over Northern Arizona. Head coach Brent Brennan's Wildcats made a strong start to their third year, showcasing their abilities against a smaller opponent.

Fifita completed 22 of 29 passes, setting up his fellow players with precise throws. Arizona's defense was equally impressive, holding off Northern Arizona to only 193 total yards, and sacked opposing quarterback Ty Pennington five times, including two and a half times by Chase Kennedy.

The Wildcats took an early lead with Tre Spivey catching a 20-yard touchdown pass from Fifita on the team's opening drive, followed by Brandon Phelps scoring on a 21-yard touchdown. Fifita also ran for an additional 11 yards, contributing to a 21-0 halftime lead.

Despite a fumble lost by Arizona receiver Giovanni Richardson, the Wildcats maintained momentum, scoring two more touchdowns in the second half. Antwan Roberts Jr. and Reescano each added one-touchdown runs, leading to a final score of 35-0.

Northern Arizona, No. 22 in FCS rankings, fought back from a 21-point deficit after the first quarter but could not overcome the superior Arizona defense. The team will face Incarnate Word in their next game.
