Naqvi doubles down on demand for new provinces

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has reiterated his demand for a "reset" of Pakistan's governance system, arguing that the country needs to restructure its administrative framework to manage its growing population and changing needs. He stated that new administrative units must be created, regardless of opposition, as the existing structure is no longer capable of effectively providing basic services to citizens.

Naqvi clarified that his call for restructuring was not aimed at replacing the current government or political party, but rather a comprehensive review and restructuring of the administrative system to better serve the public. He emphasized that the creation of new administrative units should be done in accordance with the people's wishes and within the constitutional and legal framework.

The minister also called for a debate on granting provincial status to Islamabad, noting that the federal capital does not receive its fair share of resources under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. He urged political and public support for this proposal, emphasizing that any new administrative units should receive public approval.
