Mountaineer’s body recovered from Falak Sar peak in KP's Swat

A local mountaineer named Mian Syed Ali Shah has been recovered from the highest peak in Swat, Falak Sar, following an extensive and challenging rescue operation. Shah, a resident of Khwazakhela, successfully reached the summit, which stands at nearly 6,000 meters, as part of a six-member expedition. However, he tragically slipped and fell into a steep gully while descending, sustaining serious injuries and ultimately succumbing to the extreme weather conditions.

The recovery effort began weeks after Shah's tragic demise, when a group of young local volunteers, armed with a drone, identified his body on a glacier at an altitude of around 5,200 meters. His family, fellow mountaineers, and members of the local community appealed to the district administration and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for a helicopter-assisted recovery.

These appeals garnered attention at both provincial and federal levels, prompting authorities to prioritize the safe return of the deceased mountaineer's remains.

Despite initial unsuccessful attempts to reach the site due to bad weather and difficult flying conditions, improved weather on Friday allowed the rescue operation to resume. Local mountain guide Saddam Hussain and his team played a pivotal role in the recovery effort, navigating the extremely dangerous, snow-bound terrain with the aid of helicopter support.

The rescue operation was considered exceptionally challenging due to the high altitude, severe weather, steep slopes, glaciers, and hazardous mountain routes. Rescuers displayed remarkable courage, determination, and professional skill to successfully retrieve Shah's body. In Swat, Shah was not just a mountaineer or a guide; he was a symbol of courage, adventure, and determination. His journey served as an inspiration for a new generation of young people in the valley, leaving behind a larger-than-life message.
