MECC processes over 57,000 electronic submissions for chemical, hazardous waste management

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) in Qatar has processed a significant number of electronic submissions for chemical and hazardous waste management since launching its digital system in 2024. According to a statement released on Sunday, MECC processed 57,699 electronic submissions, providing 23 electronic services through an integrated system that consolidates chemical management and hazardous waste management services within a transparent regulatory framework.

The ministry processed transactions for over 1,850 registered companies, with zero paper-based submissions, and achieved a customer satisfaction rate of 93.4 percent. The introduction of process reengineering resulted in a remarkable reduction in processing time, with average processing times falling to 2.4 business days for hazardous materials transactions and 1.5 business days for hazardous waste transactions.

MECC also handled 131,971 tons of hazardous waste, issued permits for 288 tons of electronic waste, and conducted compliance-monitoring activities, including inspections of 4,097 facilities, which raised the compliance rate among warehouses and facilities to about 90 percent. The ministry organized 49 awareness workshops and training courses attended by 1,990 private-sector representatives and developed 25 guidance documents in alignment with international agreements.

MECC is preparing to expand digital integration and develop advanced analytical tools as part of the TASMU smart program, with the aim of transitioning to a proactive regulatory approach that serves the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
