Landtagswahl: „Schwerer Schlag“ – AfD kratzt an der absoluten Mehrheit, Schockstarre in der CDU

In a stunning outcome for the Landtagswahl in Sachsen-Anhalt, the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party has claimed victory with a record-breaking 44.4% of the vote, according to early calculations by Infratest dimap. The AfD emerged as the strongest force, marking a significant 23.6% increase from the 2021 election. In contrast, the CDU suffered a substantial loss, securing only 18.4% of the vote.

While the AfD's win does not grant them a government alone, they would control 39 of the 83 seats. An absolute majority requires 42 seats, leaving the AfD three short of that mark. AfD's leader Ulrich Siegmund pledged to extend a hand to all parties willing to implement a fundamental political shift. The CDU faced a crushing blow, losing nearly half of its 2021 support and potentially securing just 16 seats.

The Left party achieved 9.4% of the vote, a decline of 1.6 points. The Greens garnered 8.9% of the vote, up by 3.0 points. The SPD finished with 8.2% and saw a slight decrease. The FDP, however, fell far short of the 5% threshold, receiving just 2.1%.
