KLIA sets up resting areas for Jakarta‑bound passengers after Anak Krakatau ash forces airport shutdown

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has established resting areas for passengers traveling to Jakarta on flights affected by the temporary closure of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport due to volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau. The airport advised passengers to contact their airlines for the most recent schedule updates following the closure.

KLIA has set up designated resting areas at various locations within the terminal buildings, including Terminal 1's Anjung Tinjau, CRS Area, and Gate C36 Mezzanine Level, as well as Terminal 2's Level 3A Mezzanine Floor in the Departure Hall. The eruption of Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, continued on Saturday, with authorities reporting ongoing lava-fountaining activity and audible booming and rumbling sounds.

The volcano remains at Alert Level III, with a three-kilometre exclusion zone in place around its active crater. Indonesia's Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation stated that the volcano's regrown edifice is relatively small and not considered capable of causing a tsunami.
