‘I starve every day’: McDonald's India's official X account gets compromised, ‘unpaid’ employee posts on social media

On 6 September, McDonald's India's official X account became the center of an unusual online storm. An anonymous post appeared, claiming to be from an unpaid intern at the company. The alleged intern, working in unpaid internships since December 2025, revealed that they were forced to take on two additional jobs to make ends meet.

They claimed to manage multiple McDonald's accounts in Asia while dealing with unpaid wages. The post also mentioned trading memecoins and losing money on them, with the individual stating, "I literally starve every day."

The post gained significant traction, accumulating thousands of likes before vanishing. Moments later, a follow-up appeared featuring a photo of Amit Joshi, the alleged boss under scrutiny. The image showed a group photo from what seemed like a cricket match. Later, another post emerged, seemingly claiming the entire situation was fabricated, complete with hashtags #fakenews and #memecoin and a meme of a crying dog. The caption joked, "If only our actual posts went this viral..."

The authenticity of the posts remains uncertain, with McDonald's India yet to release an official statement addressing the situation. Screenshots of the posts have spread widely across social media platforms, with users divided on whether to believe the complaint or view it as an elaborate prank. Many defended the individual who posted the complaint, calling out the boss for their actions. However, some questioned how someone could gain access to the verified account.
