I Feel about AI

I am struck by wonder at the impressive capabilities of neural networks. Language models operate much like a gut instinct, generating token after token without any planning or reasoning algorithms. However, there is an underlying sense of fear about the potential for a superintelligent AI to cause humanity's downfall. Yudkowsky's argument that such an AI would inevitably destroy us appears to have no flaws, yet no one is actively trying to contain AI due to its usefulness.

I am disgusted by the way AI companies are eroding the open web society. Their crawlers and agents make it harder to maintain a vibrant open community online, akin to a destructive locust plague. I feel somber for the artists who are suffering due to the competitive force of AI-generated content. Being an artist has always entailed sacrifice, and now it is even more challenging as AI can produce content more cheaply and quickly than ever before.

I am angered by the political system's failure to regulate the unchecked power of capital. While I may rant about politicians frequently, I still prefer a democratic government to the influence of billionaires. The issue largely boils down to making certain coordinated decisions, but most people remain unaware of the problem. This also encompasses the environmental destruction caused by AI companies as they greedily consume resources.

I am content to be alive during this age of discovery. We may witness the creation of artificial intelligence, and working in software development has been radically transformed forever since 2026. It is astonishing to observe this firsthand, as it allows the generation of content such as code, images, and music that would not have been created otherwise.

Ultimately, the question remains: does the positive impact of technological progress outweigh the negative consequences on society? On a technological level, it seems promising, but on a societal level, it is disheartening.
