HK, Fujian share close ties: CY Leung

CY Leung, the Vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, expressed admiration for Hong Kong's strong bonds with Fujian province at a recent forum. Leung highlighted that approximately one-sixth of Hong Kong's population is of Fujian origin, and these residents wield considerable influence across various sectors in the city.

The Hong Kong native pointed out that the region has been a significant source of foreign investment for Fujian and has established itself as a hub for offshore financing. Leung also commended Hong Kong's extensive international trade network and professional global trade and logistics services. He emphasized that Hong Kong serves as a global connector for Fujian's global aspirations, facilitating both the acquisition and sale of goods on an international scale.

In June, Hong Kong and Fujian signed 28 agreements across 11 sectors, including aviation, innovation, and dispute resolution, according to Leung. These collaborations form a robust foundation for increased cooperation between the two regions. Guo Ningning, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, echoed Leung's sentiments, stating that Hong Kong functions as an international financial, shipping, trade, and innovation center.

Guo emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation between Hong Kong and Fujian under the 15th Five-Year Plan period, as the relationship holds immense significance for the future of both regions.
