Hernández, Sanoja HRs lead Marlins past Cubs 10-3; Chicago’s Crow-Armstrong hits 40th homer

Javier Sanoja and Heriberto Hernández drove in the crucial runs, as the Miami Marlins defeated the Chicago Cubs 10-3 on Sunday. Sanoja smashed a two-run homer in the seventh inning, while Hernández added a solo shot in the fourth. The Marlins avoided a series sweep, securing a win in three games. Chicago's Pete Crow-Armstrong reached the 40-home run milestone, joining Kyle Schwarber with 42 homers this season.

Miami's Otto Lopez and Jakob Marsee contributed with two hits each. Marlins starter Tyler Phillips (5-6) surrendered three runs and five hits over five innings. Cubs reliever Clay Holmes (2-3) was removed during a five-run fifth inning, which broke a 3-3 tie. Miami's Griffin Conine took an early lead with a hit-by-pitch with bases loaded.

Sanoja extended the Marlins' lead with another two-run homer in the seventh. Hernández closed the scoring with a solo shot in the fourth, his 24th homer of the season. Mack's RBI groundout and Lopez's run-scoring single put the Marlins ahead 2-0 before Chicago responded with Crow-Armstrong's sacrifice fly and Nico Hoerner's RBI double.

Holmes allowed eight runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings. The Marlins inducted veteran Josh Beckett into their Hall of Fame before the game, honoring his crucial role in the 2003 World Series championship. On Monday, Cubs left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd will face Brewers Robert Gasser, while Marlins right-handed pitcher Eury Pérez will take on Mets Robert Gasser.
