Germany Unveils Anti-Sabotage Plan After Leipzig Airport Attack

Germany is set to unveil a comprehensive anti-sabotage plan in response to a failed explosive drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, according to Bild. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced a suite of measures to counter Russian hybrid threats, including drone defense, critical infrastructure protection, cybersecurity enhancements, and surveillance for detecting spies and terrorists.

Dobrindt stated that Russia's hybrid attacks are a daily reality and will likely escalate further, but Germany is prepared to defend itself.

The plan involves expanding the Federal Police's mobile anti-drone capabilities, with rapid-response units equipped with specialized vehicles and helicopters stationed in nine key cities. These units will protect major transit hubs, airports, railways, and Berlin's government quarter, with the ability to intercept and neutralize explosive drones.

Critical infrastructure operators, such as water utilities, energy companies, and defense manufacturers, will receive expanded legal authority to actively counter unauthorized drones.

Germany also plans to deploy AI tools, biometric facial recognition, and automated video surveillance at transport hubs to identify weapons, suspicious behavior, and potential spies. Additionally, a national "Cyberdome" will be established to detect and block coordinated cyberattacks.
