General : ‘Religious Exploitation’ More Accurately Describes Misuse Of Religion - FT Mufti

Federal Territories Mufti Ahmad Fauwaz Fadzil has stated that the phrase "religious exploitation" is a more accurate and objective term compared to "riding on religion" when describing the misuse of religion for personal gain. He emphasized that the term "riding on religion" could lead to generalizations and negative connotations, potentially harming religious figures who genuinely promote Islam.

In contrast, "religious exploitation" specifically highlights the act of misusing religion for wealth, influence, or status, while also illustrating the existence of both exploiters and the deceived. Ahmad Fauwaz explained that this term aligns with the Quranic and hadith teachings, which condemn the manipulation of religion for personal gain.

He pointed out that both Surah At-Taubah and Surah Al-Baqarah in the Quran explicitly prohibit religious exploitation, as they illustrate scenarios where religion is used as a tool to obtain worldly benefits, which is considered reprehensible. The Prophet Muhammad also warned about individuals who exploit religion to deceive people for personal gain.

Ahmad Fauwaz urged the public to be cautious and conduct thorough checks before placing their trust in anyone who uses religion as a means to acquire money, influence, or position. He advised those involved in religious preaching, knowledge, and work to maintain sincerity and fulfill their responsibilities solely for the sake of Allah.
