Former Brazil coach Parreira cleared to leave hospital

Brazil's legendary former national team coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has been granted permission to leave the Samaritano Barrale Hospital in Rio de Janeiro, according to a recent statement. At 83 years old, Parreira has shown a positive clinical response during his stay at the facility since June. The statement from the hospital noted that he will receive home and outpatient care to monitor his overall health condition.

Parreira was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer affecting the lymphatic system, in 2023. He was admitted to the hospital on June 16 due to pneumonia and later underwent surgery when his condition deteriorated. He was subsequently moved to the intensive care unit and later a semi-intensive care unit. Parreira is currently the record holder for the most World Cup appearances as head coach, leading Brazil to victory in 1994 and 2006, as well as guiding Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa to the tournament.
