Forecast for flooding of low-lying areas in seven Punjab cities

The Flood Forecasting Division of the Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning of potential flooding in the low-lying areas of seven Punjab cities. The cities at risk include Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, and Okara. The forecast predicts heavy rainfall on Sunday, which could disrupt daily life and transportation.

The river flow at Guddu Barrage is expected to reach low-flood levels, while moderate increases are expected in the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, and Ravi rivers and their tributaries. The division also warns of possible urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujrat, and Gujranwala, as well as flash flooding in streams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tributaries of the Kabul River.

The Tarbela reservoir is currently at its maximum conservation level, while the Mangla reservoir is filled to 79% of its capacity. The Kabul River at Nowshera and Khairabad Bridge have recorded significant inflow and outflow levels. The Jhelum and Chenab rivers also show elevated flow rates at their respective gauging stations. Barrages such as Jinnah, Chashma, Taunsa, Sukkur, Kotri, Trimmu, and Panjnad are also experiencing increased flows.
