Five minutes to Johor Bahru: Singapore completes Woodlands North RTS station four months before launch

Singapore has concluded construction of the Woodlands North station for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link four months ahead of its inaugural January 2027 opening. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the completed station on September 4 via a Facebook post, as preparations for the cross-border railway continue.

The 4km shuttle between Woodlands North and Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru is projected to take approximately five minutes once operational. Passengers will be able to clear both Singapore and Malaysian immigration at Woodlands North station, eliminating the need for a second immigration clearance after crossing the border. The station's design integrates Woodlands' natural elements, with colors and architectural features inspired by trees.

A symbolic hand gesture at the international boundary represents the strong bond between Singapore and Malaysia. The RTS trains will reach a maximum speed of 80km/h, with the ability to transport up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction. The project will greatly augment public transport capacity between Singapore and Johor Bahru, alleviating congestion on the already busy road crossings between the two cities.
