FBR Chairman Dissatisfied With Tax Officers

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman has expressed dissatisfaction with the work of tax officers at both headquarters and field offices, according to sources speaking with ProPakistani. Following the chairman's directives, FBR tax offices remained open on Saturday, placing greater emphasis on improved tax collection. During a recent gathering, senior and junior officers were questioned regarding their tax collection efforts and overall performance.

Two officers were subsequently suspended; one was dismissed for lacking knowledge about the Track and Trace System, while the other was disciplined for failing to issue a required Sales Tax SRO.

FBR leadership anticipates that officers must now generate stronger results after being equipped with vehicles and other resources. The organization managed to meet its tax collection target in July but fell short of the August target by approximately Rs. 28 billion. Furthermore, the authority is considering a review of its tax collection approach.

Reports indicate that some field offices are meeting monthly targets through arrangements with taxpayers that involve fixed monthly payments. While this tactic may help offices reach short-term targets, the long-term sustainability of such a system remains uncertain.
