F1 Italian GP Live: Gasly on pole as Piastri fights from sixth after penalty

Oscar Piastri starts tonight's Italian Grand Prix from sixth place after receiving a grid penalty during Saturday's qualifying session. Pierre Gasly of Alpine surprises everyone by taking the pole position at Monza, following a remarkable result from the previous night's qualifying. Meanwhile, Formula 1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli will be starting from the back of the grid after Mercedes decided to install new power unit components to his car.

Oscar Piastri, who initially qualified third fastest for the Italian Grand Prix, faced an unfortunate incident during Q2 when he was in the way of Kiwi driver Liam Lawson. When Lawson was on a fast lap, Piastri had to brake heavily to avoid a collision, which left him in an awkward position on the first corner. Piastri acknowledged the challenge, stating that he "had to jump on the brakes pretty heavily" and ended up in a "very awkward spot" with Liam Lawson.

Now starting from the third row, Piastri is optimistic about a wild start to the race. He believes that despite his team's pace not being as quick as Mercedes or Ferrari over longer runs, the chaotic nature of the first few laps at Monza could make it an interesting race.
