Delhi HC quashes FIR arising out of fight between friends, directs community service at Manipur hospital

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a case that arose from a fight between two friends, opting instead to direct them to perform community service at a hospital in Manipur. The court concluded that the likelihood of the case leading to a conviction was low, as the complainant and the two accused were still friends with no ongoing grievances.

The high court ruled that continuing with criminal proceedings would not be beneficial and could only fuel further discord and animosity between the parties. Instead, the court ordered the individuals to complete six sessions of community service at the Regional Institute of Medical Science in Manipur, each session lasting two hours.

The court also stipulated that the community service must be completed within two months, after which a compliance certificate would be issued by the medical superintendent of the hospital. Additionally, the two men were required to collectively pay ₹10,000 to the Delhi High Court Bar Association within two weeks of completing the community service.

The court allowed this plea in August 2021, following the parties' agreement to settle the dispute amicably and sign a settlement deed. The injured party had reported that he had recovered from his injury and was not experiencing any lasting effects.
