Delhi building collapse: FIR filed against building owner, MCD says sealing drive to follow

A case of culpable homicide and negligence has been registered against the owner of a private hostel in Delhi's Satya Niketan, following its collapse on Sunday and the death of at least five people. The Delhi government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site to assess the rescue operations, and later visited the AIIMS Trauma Centre where many of the injured are being treated.

She ordered the magisterial inquiry and vowed that those responsible would be held fully accountable. The hostel, known as Hostel Daze, was owned by Hari Om, a resident of Gurgaon. Police allege that renovation work on the ground floor may have contributed to the collapse. They are investigating claims that the building had been sealed earlier and had only been operating as a private hostel.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) denies having any record of the building's sealing. The MCD announced it will conduct a sealing drive in the area, with Mayor Pravesh Wahi promising strict action against illegal constructions and guilty officials.
