Defending champions Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz look to reach the US Open quarterfinals

Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz aim to advance to the U.S. Open quarterfinals as they face their first career matchups against Taylor Townsend and Tommy Paul, respectively.

The top-ranked Sabalenka will take on Townsend at Arthur Ashe Stadium, marking the first time the two have competed against each other. Alcaraz, who returns to the tournament after recovering from a wrist injury, will face Tommy Paul, the 20th seed, in his return to professional tennis.

Both Americans, Townsend and Paul, are among the 10 players from the United States to advance to the fourth round, a record high since 2002. The five American men in the draw — Paul, Ben Shelton, Learner Tien, Frances Tiafoe, and Alex Michelsen — set a new major record for the most competitors from a single nation in a Grand Slam's fourth round.

Other fourth-round matches include Jessica Pegula versus Sorana Cirstea, Tiafoe against Daniil Medvedev, and Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova versus Marta Kostyuk. Tien, at 20 years old, is the youngest American man to reach the U.S. Open fourth round since Andy Roddick in 2002.
