Cyclists descend on Scottish Borders for two major racing events

Thousands of amateur cyclists and top professionals are converging on the Scottish Borders for two major cycling events, the Tour of Britain and Tour O The Borders. The elite men's race of the Tour of Britain will conclude on a circular route in Earlston, while the Tour O The Borders will begin and end in Peebles, each route not overlapping with the other.

Organizers are expecting over 2,000 riders to participate in the Tour O The Borders, which is one of only three closed-road cycling sportives in the UK, renowned for its excellent course and breathtaking scenery. Neil Dalgleish, from organizers Hillside Outside, emphasized their efforts to minimize disruption caused by the event, which they believe brings substantial economic benefits to the region.

The Scottish Borders Council expressed delight in hosting the final stage of the Tour of Britain, citing the race's delivery of nearly £2.5 million in economic benefits during its previous visit. They are striving to limit any inconvenience caused during the road closures, which will be minimal according to the council. The Tour O The Borders is also anticipated to contribute more than £750,000 to the local economy, with its road closures aimed at minimizing impact on residents.

Both events are set to take place in different areas of the Scottish Borders, with the council believing that the arrangement maximizes media coverage and exposure the region would not otherwise receive. The completion of a mountain bike center in the area is also underway, set to commence within weeks, further boosting cycling opportunities in the region.
