Country music star Tommy Dell injured in R40 Mbombela crash that killed two women

Country music star Tommy Dell is receiving medical treatment after a crash on the R40 in Mbombela claimed the lives of two women. The collision occurred around 10 pm on Saturday night when a Honda sedan carrying Dell and the two women collided with a bakkie. Two other women died at the scene, while the bakkie's occupants were injured.

Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi confirmed the fatalities. Dell, a country music industry veteran who represented South Africa in Nashville in the 1980s, is known for his energetic performances under the nickname "The Killer". Dell performed at a Country Evening at Bosjol in Mbombela before the tragic incident.

The crash happened shortly after his performance. The Honda was turning onto Hermansburg Road from Mbombela when it struck the bakkie traveling from Barberton towards Mbombela. Mmusi stated that police are investigating two counts of culpable homicide in connection with the deaths. She has urged motorists to exercise extra caution, especially during rainy conditions, as they can compromise visibility and road traction.
