Hyderabad's Regional Tax Office has launched a digital invoicing enforcement campaign to ensure businesses adhere to the new Sales Tax laws. During the crackdown, around 30 vehicles loaded with goods were halted as they lacked the necessary digital invoices and supporting documents. Despite registration in the Digital Invoicing system, these businesses were found transporting consignments without issuing the required digital invoices.
Under the applicable rules, a tax invoice must be issued before goods are transported. Consequently, the affected taxpayers were made aware of their legal duties and encouraged to comply with Digital Invoicing requirements. The enforcement squads seized these goods, assessed the owed tax, and allowed the vehicles to proceed once the due tax was settled or the taxpayers presented the digital invoice.
This action proved that if businesses had followed the tax laws correctly from the beginning, they would not have faced issues during transportation. Adil Ahmed Siddiqui, the President of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and S.M. Jafri, the President of the Hyderabad Tax Bar Association, discussed the enforcement with the Chief Commissioner of Inland Revenue, RTO Hyderabad, Sajjad Akbar Khan.
They praised the transparency of the enforcement drive and emphasized the importance of providing the business community an opportunity to understand and comply with the new legal requirements, such as issuing digital invoices at the time of dispatching goods.
Chief Commissioner Khan assured the business community that they would be supported and guided to fully implement the Digital Invoicing system. In response, Khan stated his willingness to temporarily halt further enforcement actions, contingent on assurances from the Chamber and Tax Bar that they would take immediate steps to promote and facilitate voluntary compliance from businesses.
This initiative aims to promote transparency, ensure proper documentation, and foster respect for tax laws. By granting the business community a chance to voluntarily comply, the RTO Hyderabad seeks to encourage compliance while maintaining a cooperative relationship with the business sector.
