Batam airport cancels five flights amid Anak Krakatau eruption

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has established resting areas for passengers heading to Jakarta on flights impacted by volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau, which forced a temporary shutdown of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. KLIA advised passengers to reach out to their airlines for updated flight information due to the ash-related closure.

The airport has designated specific resting spots within its terminals for affected travelers. Terminal 1 has areas at Anjung Tinjau, Level 5, the CRS Area, Level 3, and Gate C36, Mezzanine Level of the Satellite Building. Terminal 2 offers a resting area at Level 3A (Mezzanine Floor) in the Departure Hall. Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, is still erupting, with lava-fountaining activity and loud booming sounds reported.

The volcano erupted on Friday night and continued until early Saturday morning. Indonesia's Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation maintains the volcano at Alert Level III (Siaga), with a three-kilometre exclusion zone around its active crater. Experts note that the volcano's newly formed edifice is small and not likely to cause a tsunami.
