‘Avoid political comments’ – Domelevo advises Chief Justice

Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has advised Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to refrain from making political comments that could potentially become subjects of litigation. Domelevo cautioned that such statements could give the impression of judicial bias. He emphasized that officials in sensitive constitutional positions must be extra cautious about their statements, particularly when discussing the performance or actions of institutions that might later be parties to legal disputes.

Although the Chief Justice's intentions might be to improve collaboration between the Judiciary and other state institutions, Domelevo pointed out that remarks implying corruption or inefficiency in an institution could undermine public confidence in the court's impartiality if related cases arise thereafter. On Channel One TV, Domelevo stated that his preference is for the Chief Justice to avoid commenting on political matters, especially those that could later lead to court cases.

His remarks come in response to Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie's recent public praise of state-owned institutions under the current administration, while also questioning their performance over the past eight years.
