Anwar arah SPRM teliti isu kelewatan bekal baja kepada pesawah

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that failures in the distribution of agricultural inputs such as fertilizer cannot be treated lightly due to the hardships faced by farmers, including adverse weather conditions and water supply issues. In Serdang, Anwar directed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) to investigate the issue of fertilizer delivery delays in Kedah.

He emphasized the need to identify the root cause, including examining the companies entrusted with managing the relevant distribution. Anwar acknowledged both support and criticism from farmers regarding the matter, which he believed has caused frustration among them. "They wake up, get angry. There are also memos and complaints to me.

I receive them. So we need to find out the cause. Which company was entrusted? Do they honor their promises?" he said during a closing session of the 2026 Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Exhibition Show (MAHA) in Seri Kembangan. Anwar stressed that appropriate action should be taken and that companies repeatedly making mistakes should not be held responsible if they fail to meet their obligations.

"If companies like these repeatedly make mistakes, cancel them. Bring in new companies. Don't make farmers and farmers' families victims," he said. Anwar also urged SPRM to conduct an inquiry into the matter and to take the case to court if there is sufficient evidence for prosecution. "If it goes to court, let it go to court. If it's a charge, SPRM should lead the investigation.

I request SPRM to lead the inquiry into this process," he insisted. He reiterated that fertilizer distribution failures cannot be treated lightly as farmers are already facing challenges such as weather conditions and water supply issues. Earlier, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu said the government decided to terminate the services of a company due to the fertilizer distribution delays.

However, he said the issue was expected to be resolved once the remaining fertilizer is delivered to farmers within 10 days. Media earlier reported that around 40,000 out of 60,000 farmers in the Mada area were expected to be affected as they were yet to receive additional fertilizer.
