Amisi: My impeachment motion against Ruto is ready, but there is no MP to sign it

Caleb Amisi, the leader of the Peoples Renaissance Movement (PRM) party, has announced that he has prepared an impeachment motion against President William Ruto, but he is currently unable to gather enough support for it. Speaking to a local media station on September 6, 2026, Amisi expressed his frustration with the current Parliament's inability to hold the President and his administration accountable.

He stated that the current MPs lack the political will to initiate impeachment proceedings, highlighting that the 13th Parliament has failed to fulfill its constitutional mandate of providing effective oversight over the Executive.

Amisi emphasized that impeachment is one of the constitutional tools available to Parliament to keep the Executive in check, but he believes that the current 13th Parliament has not exercised this responsibility. Consequently, he has shifted his focus towards the upcoming General Election, with an aim to elect MPs who are willing and capable of fulfilling their oversight mandate, including initiating impeachment proceedings if necessary.

The PRM leader urged for a Parliament that is not afraid to challenge the Executive when leaders act against the interests and wishes of ordinary Kenyans. His comments came after he had openly called for President Ruto's impeachment and offered to table the motion through his social media platforms, although this proposal was swiftly dismissed by Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina.

She dismissed Amisi's plan as a "wild goose chase" and argued that it would not secure the necessary support to move the motion forward, as it would require at least two-thirds of National Assembly members to back it.
