Amazon cargo plane sends up billowing cloud of smoke after overrunning runway at Miami airport

An Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, veering off the runway and crashing into several vehicles, before bursting into flames. The incident, which occurred around 2 p.m., sent thick black smoke billowing into the sky, prompting the closure of all runways at the bustling airport. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft, en route from San Juan, Puerto Rico, overran the runway.

Images on social media show the plane resting near a roadway, adjacent to parked semi-trucks. Amazon has yet to comment on the matter. It is unclear if any individuals were injured in the crash. All runways and taxiways were shut down, and a ground stop was implemented, meaning all flights were halted and the airport effectively shut down.

The FAA anticipates delays upon the airport's reopening, with a low rate of arrivals and departures. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene, finding the plane ablaze. Sixty units were on the ground attempting to extinguish the fire, according to the agency's social media post.
