AITUC general secretary Amarjeet Kaur calls for mass mobilisation to defend workers’ rights

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary Amarjeet Kaur called for a sustained movement to protect workers' rights and those of other toiling sections, alleging that policies of the BJP-led Central government were undermining their interests. Addressing a public meeting at Circus Grounds in Karimnagar, the opening day of the AITUC's 4th State conference, Kaur noted that workers, farmers, and youth were facing challenges, especially in employment, education, and livelihood.

She highlighted the recent student agitation at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, indicating growing concerns among youth over the lack of quality public education and employment opportunities. Kaur accused the BJP government of weakening labor laws and favoring select corporate houses at the expense of workers' rights. She advocated for mass mobilization and ongoing struggles to defend workers' hard-earned rights and safeguard the interests of farmers, women, youth, and other groups, while protecting constitutional values and the country's secular fabric.

The three-day State conference would discuss issues affecting the working class and develop strategies for collective action to protect workers' rights. Earlier, workers, including daily-wage laborers and farm workers, held a rally in Karimnagar to mark the conference's start. CPI State secretary and Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao and others addressed the event.
