한국 구호대가 다가왔다…네팔 생존 중국인 “근처에 1명 더 있었어요”

A Chinese survivor rescued from a tunnel near a Korean-Nepal rescue team reported that another person was found nearby. The Korean External Emergency Rescue Team (KDRT) has decided to continue their search on the sixth day based on this information. The Chinese survivor, Mr. Lu Hai Tao, was rescued at a UT-1 hydroelectric power plant tunnel location 225 meters inland in the afternoon.

He stated that he saw another person close to where he was but couldn't confirm their survival. This comes after seven days since the Nepal earthquake and floods struck, which has given hope that the nine missing Korean nationals might still be alive. The site where the Chinese survivor was found is the same tunnel where nine Korean workers were working at the time of the disaster.

The Korean External Emergency Rescue Team used muddy tunnels, water up to the waist, and darkness to search inside the tunnel and eventually rescue Mr. Lu. He was then taken to a hospital in a military helicopter and is now in stable condition. According to CCTV, Mr. Lu said he "didn't believe" when the rescue team arrived and found him.

The Korean ambassador to China posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying, "A Chinese national was safely rescued by the Korean and Nepalese rescue teams." The ambassador expressed deep gratitude and respect to both rescue teams. Before entering the UT-1 hydroelectric power plant tunnel on the morning, the Korean External Emergency Rescue Team found one body at 10:32 a.m. They later bolstered their team with three more rescuers and entered the tunnel again in the afternoon to rescue Mr. Lu.

After rescuing him, they recovered the previously discovered bodies. This effort follows the Korean External Emergency Rescue Team's successful rescue of eight people during the 2023 Trujillo earthquake in Turkey.
