WAEC cancels 2026 WASSCE results of 8,295 candidates over examination irregularities

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has canceled the results of 8,295 candidates for the 2026 WASSCE due to various examination irregularities. Out of these candidates, 7,434 had their subject results cancelled for bringing unauthorized materials such as prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material into examination halls.

Additionally, WAEC revoked the entire results of 861 candidates who were found with mobile phones in the examination halls. Furthermore, 957 candidates had their subject results withheld, while the entire results of 270 candidates were also withheld due to suspected offenses. These decisions followed investigations conducted at the 42nd Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee on August 7, 2026.

Some subject results from 169 schools are still under investigation, and the affected results may be released or canceled depending on the outcome of the investigations. WAEC expects the investigations to be finalized by October 30, 2026. Candidates who have had their results cancelled or withheld can check the reasons for the decision and further information on the WAEC's irregularity and investigations platform.

The Council has also cautioned candidates and stakeholders against fraudulent schemes promising to upgrade examination results for a fee, emphasizing that the results are secured and can be authenticated through WAEC's results verification system.
