Verhandlungen: Ukraine-Krieg: Gespräche von Putin und US-Gesandten beendet

In Moscow, new negotiations between Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner came to an end. After about three hours of talks, the two US delegates left the Kremlin overnight, according to state media and a video of their convoy. The outcome of the discussions remains unknown. The Kremlin had announced it would inform the public following the meeting.

Witkoff and Kushner were taken to the airport Wnukowo by Putin's representative for international economic relations, Kirill Dmitriev. Dmitriev, who had dined for three and a half hours with the guests at a Moscow gourmet restaurant earlier that day, posted a photo on X, stating that it was a "major peace-making visit." The envoys plan to travel to Kyiv the following Sunday, where they will be received by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

It is unclear where they will spend the night. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskow said the US envoys had new proposals with them, but he did not provide details. Trump also claimed Witkoff and Kushner would bring a proposal. A three-day ceasefire in Kyiv was ordered by Putin to allow the envoys to visit the Ukrainian capital for the first time, as they had previously met with Putin multiple times in Russia.

Putin said Russia would do everything to ensure their safe journey. Zelensky had accused the Russian military of publicly shelling Kyiv's Shynja and Boryspil airports ahead of the US envoys' arrival. Previous talks between Putin and the US delegates led to direct negotiations between Russians and Ukrainians, but they stalled and ended as Witkoff and Kushner had been primarily focused on Trump's war against Iran in recent months.

Kremlin experts speculated that Witkoff and Kushner might also discuss the topic of Iran, given that Russia supports Iran in the conflict.
