US envoys arrive in Moscow ahead of Ukraine talks

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have landed in Moscow ahead of weekend talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. The delegation will travel to Kyiv on Sunday for discussions with Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky. President Donald Trump revealed on Friday that the envoys are bringing a proposal to end the conflict.

Efforts to broker a peace deal have thus far been unsuccessful. Both Russia and Ukraine have agreed to halt strikes on each other's capital cities for three days while the delegation conducts its visit. According to Zelensky, he has spoken with the envoys, who have already begun working with the Russian side. He stated that Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow from now until the end of Saturday, and the Russians are expected to do the same regarding Kyiv.

Russian state media reported that President Vladimir Putin has ordered a halt to strikes on Kyiv for three days during the US visit. Witkoff and Kushner were greeted by Russian official Kirill Dmitriev upon arriving at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport. The US envoys are planned to separately meet both Putin and Zelensky on Sunday. Prior to this, the two have visited Russia several times, but the upcoming talks would be the first in Ukraine.
