Turning Point is laying the groundwork to shape Republican presidential primary in 2028

At the Iowa State Fair, Turning Point Action activists heckled Democratic politicians, drawing attention to the conservative youth organization. Videos of the confrontations garnered hundreds of thousands of views on social media, marking a significant milestone for Turning Point Action after the assassination of its leader, Charlie Kirk, last year.

While Democrats have moved Iowa's presidential primary calendar, the state will still host the first major step in Republicans' nominating process. Turning Point Action aims to shape this contest, emphasizing the importance of high voter participation in the caucuses.

The organization intends to have at least one staffer in each of Iowa's 99 counties, aiming to mobilize the conservative grassroots. Tyler Bowyer, Turning Point Action's chief operating officer, stated that it is crucial to have high voter turnout in the caucuses, which serves as a key indicator for future elections.

Iowa's shift towards the right over the past decade has made it a competitive battleground for Republicans. Key races to replace retiring officials such as Joni Ernst and Kim Reynolds have fueled the need for strong grassroots support. Potential candidates include Vice President JD Vance, who is widely expected to run, and other prominent Republicans like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Sen. Dan Patrick.

Turning Point Action's expansion into New Hampshire and Nevada for the midterms further solidifies its presence in early primary states. While some question the organization's impact, others appreciate its presence, describing it as a welcome addition after lacking Turning Point Action for a year.
