‘This isn’t politics’: Brian Lara backs Imran Khan, calls for dignity and proper medical care for Pakistan legend

Brian Lara, the ex-West Indies cricket captain, voiced his support for imprisoned former Pakistan captain Imran Khan on Instagram. Lara expressed his shock and concern over Khan's treatment, stating that he couldn't comprehend how a sporting hero could now be deprived of proper medical care. Lara, who only met Khan a few times on the field, emphasized his admiration for the former captain and called for humane treatment and dignity.

Lara urged the authorities to ensure an independent medical assessment and the provision of recommended treatment, emphasizing this wasn't about politics but about basic humanity for a sporting legend. His appeal joins a growing list of cricket legends, including Greg Chappell, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Allan Border, Michael Atherton, Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Nasser Hussain, and Pat Cummins, who have also come forward to demand justice for Imran Khan.

The appeal includes three key requests: an independent medical evaluation by a Supreme Court-appointed panel, uninterrupted family visits, and immediate implementation of recommended medical treatments. Many former and current Pakistani cricketers, including Moin Khan, have also expressed their support for Khan, highlighting the importance of standing up for the well-being of a former sports icon.
