Stuart Grehan delivers and Great Britain and Ireland take 1-point lead over USA in Walker Cup

British Amateur champion Stuart Grehan overcame a 3-hole deficit against the top amateur golfer to secure a victory on the 18th hole, giving Great Britain and Ireland a 1-point lead over the United States in the Walker Cup. In the final singles match of the day, Luke Poulter of England held onto a lead against 17-year-old Miles Russell, pushing Great Britain and Ireland to a 6½-5½ advantage going into the final day at Lahinch.

With the Americans boasting six of the top 10 amateur players worldwide in their singles lineup, GB&I needed a strong performance to secure the win. William Jennings of Scotland earned a point for his team by holing a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole, followed by a victory over Connor Graham of Scotland. Niall Shiels Donegan of Scotland also contributed a point with a 4 and 3 win in team play against Ryder Cowan and Josiah Gilbert, who had initially scored due to a rules violation.
