Sarawak shelves plans for ‘mini Putrajaya’ due to land issues, delays

The Sarawak government has abandoned plans to create a federal administrative centre in Rambungan due to various obstacles, including land issues and delays in implementation. The concept of a "mini Putrajaya" was initially discussed with the federal government, according to a deputy minister in the premier's department. The proposed site for the development spanned 2,020 hectares, which was transferred from the state government to the federal government.

However, despite efforts to support the area's growth through related infrastructure, the project could not move forward. The uncompleted development left a significant road, Lebuhraya Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem, without adequate lighting for years. Abdul Rahman Junaidi explained that the road's delay also hindered the installation of lighting, which was already set up but remained disconnected due to the incomplete road connection to the site.
