Sahyadri Krishi Santhe in Shivamogga receives good response
The Sahyadri Krishna Santhe, a two-day agricultural event organized by Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, recently concluded in Shivamogga. The university inaugurated the event on Saturday, positioning it as a comprehensive marketplace for various crop saplings, seeds, agricultural tools, and value-added products. The event commenced under the leadership of M.V. Dhananjaya, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
On the first day alone, a multitude of farmers and locals from Shivamogga flocked to the campus of Agriculture College at Navule to explore the stalls. Approximately 150 stalls were set up, comprising approximately 25 nurseries offering saplings of diverse crop varieties. A handful of representatives from Farmers' Producer Organizations established stalls to sell seeds gathered from indigenous growers. Attendees also had access to demonstration plots cultivated by the university on-site.
Veeresh, a local farmer from Bedara Hosahalli, displayed a stall selling saplings of guava, lemon grass, and drumstick, all cultivated on his own farm. Despite the challenging condition of having just 21 guntas (0.5 acre) of land, Veeresh successfully cultivated a multi-crop farm that sustains his family. "After completing my graduation, I aspired to join the Indian Army but fell short of the required weight and opted for farming instead," he shared.
He cultivates crops like areca, papaya, lemon grass, guava, and more on his land, while also operating a nursery to market his saplings. "With perseverance and family support, one can sustain and provide for a family," he asserted.
The Sahyadri Krishna Santhe provided a valuable platform for numerous farmers to share their experiences, interact with visitors, and promote their agricultural endeavors.
