Sachin honours his 'first teacher' father Ramesh with fellowship for young doctors

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar honored his father, Ramesh Tendulkar, and his role as his first teacher on Teachers' Day by launching the Professor Ramesh Tendulkar Memorial Fellowship. The fellowship aims to provide financial support to young doctors specializing in cleft and craniofacial care.

Tendulkar shared on X, "When I think about the people who shaped my journey, I do not begin with a cricket ground or a coach. I begin at home." He recalled his father's influence on his life and career, emphasizing the importance of accepting failure but never compromising honesty. His father never decided his path for him; instead, he provided the freedom and support to discover it himself.

Tendulkar also highlighted the significance of providing young people with mentors, coaches, education, and healthcare, stating that talent alone is not enough to help someone reach their full potential. The fellowship, announced in memory of his father, is a testament to Tendulkar's commitment to healthcare and education, backed by the Inga Health Foundation.

This fellowship is not just about supporting medical education but also carries forward his father's philosophy of using education to serve others. Tendulkar, along with his wife Anjali, has been working through their foundation to expand access to sports, healthcare, and education for children across India. He concluded by reflecting on the lasting influence of a teacher, saying, "The lessons of a teacher may begin with one student, but their influence can travel much further, from one life to another and from one generation to the next."
