Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva has neutral athlete status revoked, AP source says

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva has had her privilege to compete internationally as a neutral athlete stripped, according to an Associated Press source. This development follows her initial neutral athlete status granted by the International Skating Union for the 2022 Beijing Olympics season. The neutral status was later revoked due to potential breaches related to her past support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The International Skating Union also withdrew the neutral status from Russian men's skater Mark Kondratiuk, Valieva's teammate at the 2022 Olympics. The International Skating Union's decision to rule on appeals by both athletes is expected by mid-next week. Should the decision remain unchanged, the athletes could then appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
