Russian attacks kill 3, injure over 20 across Ukraine as Putin meets US envoys in Moscow

On September 5, Russian attacks in Ukraine resulted in at least three deaths and over 20 injuries as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss ending the war. In Chuhuiv, Kharkiv Oblast, a drone strike killed three individuals, including a child, and injured a woman.

The Kharkiv Oblast Governor reported that the attack claimed nearly an entire family - a 19-year-old woman, an 11-year-old boy, and a 45-year-old man. Over a dozen people were also injured in Zaporizhzhia, where Russian drones targeted several buildings, including a high-rise residential building and an administrative building. In Khmelnytskyi, debris from a Russian drone struck a three-story building, injuring seven people, with one minor requiring hospitalization.

Additionally, Russian forces attacked a passenger train heading to Kherson with Shahed-type drones, damaging two diesel locomotives. One railway worker sustained shrapnel wounds, a concussion, blast injuries, and a closed head injury, though she was later reported to be in moderate condition. The attacks occurred while Witkoff and Kushner were in Moscow for talks with Putin.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced that Putin had ordered Russian forces to cease strikes on Kyiv for three days, starting at midnight. However, Ukraine proposed a broader three-day ceasefire beyond the capital attacks, covering all front-line fighting. Putin rejected the broader proposal during his meeting with the U.S. envoys.

Ukraine has expressed willingness to halt strikes on Moscow during the U.S. envoys' visit, urging Russia to reciprocate. Witkoff and Kushner are set to travel to Kyiv following their meetings in Moscow.
