Row erupts after Sikh Man says arrested, tortured in custody for showing black flag to Punjab CM

A 37-year-old Sikh man, Mohanjeet Singh, was arrested on September 2 from Sangrur district for showing a black flag and raising slogans during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's programme. He alleged he was brutally tortured in police custody, including being beaten, having his hair and beard disrespected, having blades used on his thighs and salt sprinkled on his wounds.

Mohanjeet claimed his family members were also abused and threatened. Police denied the allegations of torture, stating an inquiry was underway. They cited a positive dope test and eight pending FIRs against him. The incident occurred during a Lok Milni programme in Sheron village, raising questions about the government's anti-drug campaign.

The allegations have drawn attention from opposition leaders and resulted in an inquiry being opened at the SP Headquarters.
