Vasco's Rodrigo Dias credits team effort for first Brazilian U20 title

Vasco's Rodrigo Dias praised the team effort behind the club's first-ever Brazilian U-20 title. He emphasized the importance of the work put in by the players, coaching staff, and the entire youth academy structure. Dias thanked the club's management, including president Pedrinho, directors Felipe, Ademar, Fred, and highlighted the support received throughout the season. He also credited the 150 staff members and over 400 athletes in Vasco's youth ranks for contributing to the team's success.

The title came after Vasco had a disappointing start to the season with an early exit in the Copa São Paulo. Despite that setback, the team bounced back, finishing second in the first phase of the Brazilian U-20 Championship and advancing through the knockout rounds to reach the final against Palmeiras. Dias emphasized the role of leaders emerging within the team, citing the journey from the group stage to the national title.

He also stressed the importance of the club's youth development structure, which involves around 150 staff members and more than 400 athletes. Dias expressed hope that the title would help players transition smoothly to the senior team, citing Ramon Henrique as an example. Henrique, a product of the academy, has already moved to the first team and brought added confidence and solidity.

Dias praised the CBF's organization of the Brazilian U-20 Championship, noting that the competition's demanding schedule and high-level matches provide young players with an experience close to that of professional football. He also appreciated the atmosphere at the final matches, held in stadiums with over 10,000 and nearly 30,000 fans respectively.

In his view, development in youth football involves preparing talent, competing in high-level tournaments, and promoting players to professional football. Dias defended the continuation of this model, stressing the importance of providing competitive experiences that closely resemble what players will face in the first team. He highlighted the work of the CBF's youth coordinators, Branco, Cícero Souza, and Rodrigo Caetano, in developing players for the Brazilian national teams.
