Rescuers in Nepal find two more people alive after flash flood disaster

In a series of rescue operations following the devastating flash floods in Nepal, two more individuals have been found alive, bringing the total number of survivors to four. A Chinese man and a Nepali woman were discovered in separate incidents 10 days into the rescue efforts. The Chinese man was rescued from a 225-metre tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project using a joint team comprising Nepali military personnel and South Korean disaster experts.

He was subsequently evacuated by helicopter and is currently undergoing a health assessment. Meanwhile, a 64-year-old Nepali woman was found submerged in mud within a damaged house in the town of Nuwakot. Rescuers quickly pulled her to safety and airlifted her to Kathmandu for medical treatment. The floods, triggered by a glacial and rock collapse on August 26, have claimed at least 1,375 lives and left over 5,000 people missing.

Rescue efforts have been hampered by extensive infrastructure damage, with more than 40 bridges collapsing and rivers swelling unpredictably. Over 900 workers are reported missing, with 500 believed to be trapped in large tunnels across various hydropower projects. International rescue teams from India, China, South Korea, and the US have been working tirelessly to locate survivors amidst the debris and damaged structures.
