Punjab Launches AI System to Detect Child Labor and Out-of-School Children

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has introduced an AI-driven child protection system on Safe City surveillance cameras at the behest of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The objective of this initiative is to detect instances of child labor and children not enrolled in schools. According to a spokesperson from Safe City, the system employs artificial intelligence to monitor activities involving children continuously and flag potential cases of child labor.

It also identifies children without school uniforms during school hours, as well as students in uniform who are seen outside school during those hours. Upon detection, the system promptly issues alerts to the appropriate authorities for immediate action. The AI monitoring system for out-of-school children will be active between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The initiative aims to facilitate prompt identification of children who might be engaged in labor or absent from schools during scheduled hours.
