Philippines vice president posts bail in threats case

Manila, Philippines - Vice President Sara Duterte posted bail on Saturday following an arrest warrant issued the previous day for allegedly threatening to orchestrate the assassination of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and two others. Appearing at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court in a black outfit, Duterte embraced a sobbing supporter as her entourage chanted her name.

Despite denying the allegations, Duterte presented the court order that lifted the arrest warrant, noting her lawyers' instructions to retain a copy for future reference. She urged journalists to accompany her as she entered her vehicle, expressing concerns over her safety amid alleged harassment at her residence since 2023. Her attorney, Paul Lawrence Lim, revealed that the court collected Duterte's fingerprints and that the bail amount was set at 360,000 pesos, equivalent to approximately $5,740.
